Get the i386 located at ftp://ftp15.us.freebsd.org/pub/FreeBSD/ISO-IMAGES-i386

most intel based processors are going to be i386 based. amd and amd64 are really only for amd based procs. only exception are intel based 64 bit proc which is believe is ia64 but someone may want to confirm this.

Charles is correct. A Pentium III would use the i386 version. The IA64 applies to the Intel Itanium processors. amd64 applies to the AMD processors capable of supporting 64 bit operations (Opteron, Athlon 64, etc...). Older AMD chips (Athlon XP for example) would use the i386 version too.

Solo capacity one processor in step with chip. Duo capacity it has 2 processors geared up on the comparable chip, yet acts like a single processor on your working equipment. "The Intel middle Duo is particularly 2 processors (cores) engineered onto a single chip — offering very almost two times the computational potential of a customary single processor interior the comparable area. With 2 cores tightly integrated, greater effective L2 cache, and a selection of of engineering breakthroughs, the Intel middle Duo can provide greater overall performance for each and all of the failings you do — from improving the relatives photographs to rendering specific outcomes for a function action picture." It would not actually run at 3.seventy two, notwithstanding it has very almost the potential of three.seventy two.

Intel Pentium 3 microprocessors work on the "ix86" architecture. The "i" is for Intel.

Use the following directory - probably the latest version 6.2

ftp://ftp15.us.freebsd.org/pub/FreeBSD/ISO-IMAGES-i386/

the I stands for Intel, the X stands for any 86 class PC like the 386, 486, pentium. It's just a minimum requirements.

I like Ubuntu as a distribution too.
