I have a new puppy. I am not sure how old it is since I found it lying in the grass at my house. I decided to try to keep him as my pet. I have been feeding him milk (cow's) and bread, but I have seen where it says not to feed him cow's milk. He has threw up 3 times in the past 2 days. The 1st two times he did it was a clear liquid with a lil bit of white stuff in it. This time you could clearly tell that it was the milk and bread. What should I fed him, is he to young to eat regular puppy food? If not what type of food should I buy for him?? Any help will be appreciated!! Thanks ahead of time.

Not sure how old he is. He can walk, eyes are open, has plenty of teeth, and is in the biting stage. My parents are really dog people. And they don't want me to have the dog in the 1st place. I can't get it to the vet without them, and if I say it needs to go, I am afraid they will make me get rid of it. This is the 1st pet I have had to look after all by myself, so what should I ask the vet when I call?! Also would you call a vet or animal hospitial??!

If you don't know his age, try taking him to a vet to get their opinion. Chances are, it has worms and needs treatment for that anyway.

If he's been eating the bread, he should be fine to eat regular food. You don't necessarily need puppy food.. all it does is makes him grow faster, leaving him at risk for joint issues in the future. Regular adult food or all-stages food should be fine. I recommend feeding canned food, if he's still young. Dry should be fine as well, so long as it's not too big for him to chew.

If he's still too young to be eating solids, then get yourself some puppy replacement formula.. no more bread and cows milk.

Try finding out how old he is. Have a vet check him out. You need to make sure he has his first set of shots and that he is dewormed. The vet can also give you an idea of his age by looking at him and inspecting his teeth.

In the meantime feed him a good quality wet canned food for puppies. Don't purchase brands that are advertised as Consumer Reports indicated that these brands contain mostly fillers. Feed him a small amount every two or three hours. Do not give him milk as his little tummy cannot digest the lactose. Give him only water.

Start house training him as well, the younger they are the easier to train.

I too just bought a puppy! My vet said that you should feed it 3 times a day, just like you should eat. Make sure it is puppy food, others are too harsh for the puppy's system! Keep them on puppy food for at least a year! And let the puppy eat as much as he wants for 15 minutes, after 15 mins pick up food until next feeding! Good luck! Make sure you take the puppy outside like 20 mins afters feeding to go potty, also as soon as he wakes up take him out right away this will help with potty training. Our puppy is nine weeks old and asks to go outside already!

First off all I want to give you the thumbs up for taking responsibility of this lost puppy! What I would do, is to take this puppy to a veterinarian a.s.a.p since you never know how it found it's way to your lawn. A veterinarian will guaranteed give you all the best advice you need, and you will feel better after wards! There is also a chance that a veterinarian can help you track down the real owner off this puppy and reunite him with its mother. I agree that dogs shouldn't be given to much cow milk, since clean water is the best for them.. But on the other side, a dog is not that particular on what they drink since their stomach is not as sensitive as a humans. Cow milk is not dangerous! lol, that's just ridiculous! At least any real cats with respect for themself drinks cow milk, and it also catches and eats things like birds and mice! :)) You should not feed this puppy bread because puppy dogs need dog food that contains a huge variety of vitamins and other important nourishment to grow. I'm sure you can find the proper food for your puppy in your grocery store...

How old is he??? The first thing I would do would take him to a vet. They can tell you all the specifics. He also needs to be checked to make sure he doesnt have worms and that kind of thing. If you arent going to take him to a vet here are a few things to tell if he is old enough for dry puppy food.
-Are his eyes open?
-Can he walk/run instead of just kind of crawl around
-Does he have teeth
If all are yes too the above chances are he is old enough to eat food. Go buy him some puppy chow. Stop feeding him the milk! the bread is okay but it shouldnt be a main source of his diet.

i would suggest going to your local pet store or vet office and getting puppy milk replacer if your pup doesnt have teeth or they are just coming through then it is probalby under 20 days old if it does have teeth mix the milk replacer with canned puppy food until it is slightly runny and see if it will eat on its own i would suggest feeding it small amounts of food every 2-3 hours and also taking it to the vet as soon as possible as the throwing up may be due to something other than its diet.

OMG!...PLEASE take him to the vet immediately!!...Not only to find out how old he is & what to feed but for vaccinations if he is old enough!!!
Are his teeth in yet?...Do a Google search on hand raising puppies or something of the like to get you pointed in the right direction...If he isn't old enough to be weened he will need milk replacer for puppies!!
Milk is an absolute no no as it will make him sick & he will become dehydrated...Bread is not going to give him the nutrients he needs to live.

As I found on here, try some specialty puppy formula and get him to the vet asap. It sounds like he's not old enough for regular foods yet, and he's not digesting it properly. He may have worms as well. And from the sounds of it, you have a very sick little man there. Call your local vet ASAP.

Try him with regular puppy meat, if he can eat it then you have cracked it! If he struggles then either mush it up with water or bottle feed him puppy milk. If he was eating bread and milk then he should be able to eat meat. Cows milk is fine for the first couple of moths then they can't absord it any more so you need to stop giving it. Good luck
