Because terrorism is a very real and dangerous threat, while global warming is a ridiculous scare-tactic. It is no secret the climate changes, sometimes rapidly. Even Neanderthals must have noticed this when Europe suddenly became colder, open plains rather than forest.

Now we can all look back and criticize the Neanderthals for their poor forestry management (I hear they practiced indiscriminate clear-cutting), along with all the CO2 they sucked out of the air by killing off CO2 producing deer; resulting in a dramatic drop in the temperature. It happened over about a 10-year time period, it HAD to be their fault. Hopefully we can learn from the mistake of the Neanderthals, and not end up extinct like them. Under no circumstances should we humans try to adapt to a rapid change in climate, despite the fact that it worked so well for us in the past. We should all just get really big soapboxes and demand that the Earth stop in it's tracks. Actually it would be best if we all followed the supreme examples of Al Gore and Paris Hilton; let's just kick, scream, and threaten each other while Bin Laden and his cronies laugh it up.

Scientists are skeptical about whether or not we have anything to do with global warming, but since celebrities, lawyers and politicians are convinced we are to blame (along with most people on Y!A who once took a science class in jr. high and thus think they know everything), it's a NO BRAINER! We should definitely listen to the celebrities, lawyers and politicians. After all, they've never been known to lie to us before... Geology, physics, climatology and biology PhD's are so overrated.

People also think that jobs are more important than endangered species.

This was a poll of Americans, and a significant percentage of Americans are both scared shitless of terrorism and don't understand the dangers of global warming. Let's go through your suggested answers:

The average person isn't terribly brilliant, though dumb is further than I'd go.

I guess of your explanations I'm closest to "They haven't seen the facts."

The media does play a big role in it by being biased against global warming in their attempts to be unbiased.

I don't really blame Bush because he acknowledges that global warming is primarily caused by humans, but he's also delaying action, which is a bad example to set.

I don't really care if they watched Gore's movie as long as they've done other research. Most people haven't though.

You still don't understand the potential ramifications of global warming. Hundreds of deaths is a drop in the bucket. We're talking about hundreds of millions of people potentially homeless, all of our resources devoted to stopping global warming, insufficient food and water for everyone, etc. etc. Terrorism pales in comparison.

one of the reasons why people may say that terrorism is a bigger threat than global warming is because terrorism is man made. And some of the things that are causing global warming don't have to do with us. It has to do with the environment. And the way that we take care of it. Terrorism to a lot of people is a lot scarier than global warming, therefore don't see it as a huge threat. Many people have died because of the terrorist attack. And so far, I haven't heard of anyone dying because of Global Warming. That doesn't mean that this isn't dangerous it just means that there is more of a focus on terrorism than anything else.

Its the fear mongers making people panic for there political gain........If we don't stop living the way where living the world will end; yeah, in two billion years. I love fresh air and trees to,but lets not panic and vote for some goober because they say there going to fix global warming, Its just like thirty years ago they said we would have no more oil. Terrorism is a much bigger threat right now,as a matter of fact its the only threat now.

Because the people who were asked live in a psychopathic country where fear is an instrument of power wether its from one side or the other and decision making is submitted to opinions, partisanship and reaction rather than rationality and reason.

I hope you get one day the happiness to know about other places where there is not to fear, not to fight.

With all the ill-decisions made by the US, beeing the environmental policy or 40 years Middle Eastern policy, there is price to pay like at the end of all poorly managed project

not one of the above. Corporatism is the perpetrator. Capitalism is inherently a stable element - promoting freedom and financial prosperity for anybody. below capitalism, every physique prepared to artwork for it has the prospect to be triumphant financially. on the different hand, Corporatism is what happens whilst elite company hobbies hijack governments and worldwide bodies with the end result that regulation and coverage represents the hobbies of those firms and not the hobbies of the easy human beings. The treatment: shop government small to decrease the inducement and threat for firms to hijack it, as prescribed via the form. Withdraw from worldwide businesses that usurp national and state sovereignty.

Lay people are notoriously bad at evaluating risks.

Ask them whether they'd rather live a mile away from a coal burning power plant or a nuclear plant.

The former is a serious health risk, the latter is scary, but much less of a risk.

because people think terrorism is going to be any day now which it could but they also think that global warming is not gonna happen in their life time and neglect what will happen to future generations and just continue on their own merry way.
