why cant i edit .avi files?

on my computer whenever i edit any kind of file, but expesialy .avi files it starts to speed up whenever i replay the edited file?

it works fine before i edit it. but i need to be able to edit these files.

and avi is a video file. so i am editing with arcsoft video impression because it is the only program i have that accepts avi file format.

use one of the freeware avi editors

What are you editing it WITH? Notepad?
