The answer, is yes, you can run it on a Windows Based PC (XP even).

iTunes, although it is made by Apple/Macintosh is a free download at their website, and it's sole purpose is to be a multimedia command center for your computer. You can also purchase music, movies, and television shows through the iTunes music store. iTunes is the "computer" side of the iPod. You can download it for free from www.apple.com, yes it runs on XP.

iTunes is more than just a store. The iTunes application is what you use to access the "store", but it can also be used to copy music from a CD to the iTunes library, control your iPod, share music with other people on the same network.....

iTunes is an organizational file system for music and videos. Just download and install the iTunes program. Then put your cd collection into your computer one at a time and put your music into your electronic collection. You can then just listen randomly or make play lists or burn copies of play lists as audio cds or burn whole huge dance party disks in mp3 format.
