yes. If no one claims him, he's yours.
Maybe someone will claim him later.

Try putting him on www.craigslist.com on bothe the pets section and the lost and found in your area. If when you have looked high and low for at least a few weeks if not longer. You can either keep him or rehome him. But keep an open mind, because owners look for long periods of time. Animals can end up many miles away from their homes. If I had a dog for any length of time, and the owners turned up. I'd give it back. Make sure you tell the local shelters you have found a chi and put pictures up ther also. Perhaps vets offices too.
Also these days there is alot of small dog stealing and reselling of them. Soooo many people are going thru this. Post him on yahoo's group called K9Alert. Many people missing chi's on there.

sounds like you've done all you could to find his owners. One last thing you can try is have him scanned for a microchip.
If you want him, and can physically and financially care for him, sure, keep him! A dog doesnt need papers to be a good pet. Papers are nothing more than a birth certificate, really. You cant just "go get papers" like another poster suggested.
If you do not want to keep him, please go to www.petfinder.com and contact some rescues. Small dogs are adopted out easily.

Give it a few days, for the owner to come forth. Post a ''Found'' ad on Petfinder.com & Craigslist.org, also. Put flyers in local vet clinics, and pet stores.
Also, take him to the vet, to have him scanned for a microchip (it's free to do).
If no one claims this dog, then sure, keep him. Papers shouldn't matter, and hopefully he's neutered (or you get him neutered).

Yes! Keep him!! Chihuahuas are the best! You don't need the papers. If you adopted one from the shelter you wouldn't have any papers for them. Take him to the vet and have him vaccinated because you do not know what vax he has had. Enjoy your new little friend.

If he and your pup get along and are having a good time together, go for it! Keep the little guy. What do you need his papers for? Were you planning on showing him or using him for stud? Unless you were, the papers really mean nothin'.
Good luck to all three of you. Bless you for taking the little guy in!

Have you contacted nearby shelters and the local Chihuahua rescue too? You don;t have to surrender him to do this. They do often have a list of missing animals that may not be other places.
Why do you need his papers in order to keep him if no one else comes for him? Unless you want to show them they don;t need the papers. If they are happy together then why not just keep him if no one comes for him?

If nobody claims him and he is happy with you and your family then it is okay to keep him. You might keep trying to locate his owners for at least a few months before giving up because it could be that they just haven't seen your ads or he could have been taken from somewhere further away.

Post an ad on craigslist. It is free and a lot of people will check there. you can also look under that section to see if anyone has posted a missing dog. Good luck.

You should take him to the vet. It really doesn't matter if you have his papers or not, if no one claims him, you can keep him. If you don't want him, I'd call a local rescue. Don't take him to an animal shelter though, he would more than likely be euthanized. So be sure it's a rescue or no kill shelter if you choose not to keep him.

if he's not neutered.........get him neutered, why be troubled over not having papers on a dog? I have 2 papered horses, 1 papered dog...in total, 3 horses, 2 cats (inside only) and 4 dogs........Also, did you take him to the Vet to see if he has a Microchip? That's very important. If there's not one, you like the dog and he likes you?........?............keep him.
