My friend and i would like to visit an asian destination in Feb 2008. However, i'm unsure if the New Year festivities will hike travel costs up. If i'm not wrong, next year's new yr is scheduled on 7th Feb.

I'll greatly appreciate all the help =)
Thanks

Further Information :
We're planning the trip to be around 10-14th Feb 08
Destinations in mind : Korea, Taiwan
Weather for that time? - is winter clothing a must?
Places for us to visit?

The new year definitely raises prices. From your airline tickets to a standard cab ride. If you can alter your plans by a couple of weeks it will pay big dividends. Is this your first trip to the east. Make sure that you inform your Credit card company that you are going to be in the Orient. If you haven't told them and charges start appearing they will cancel your cards just to protect you. It can be a real pain when all your cards are locked up. Have fun and if you can Check out Vietnam. Its really beautiful and the people are great. and yes... you will need warm clothing, but remember. many people come to Asia just to buy custom clothes.

Yes prices might be a little higher( for Taiwan at least), when you are visiting Taiwan(especially the North, like Taipei)it might be raining, you do need some winter clothing. Though prices are higher at Lunar New Year, it might also be more crowded at some places since it's breaktime for everyone, however, there would be a more holiday feeling too, which is pretty nice .

The cost of airfare will be higher around that time of year due to the large number of travelers going back east for celebrate the Lunar new year with their family and friends. If you can arrange to go a week earlier or maybe a week later, you might find a better price.

As other answers said it is higher during New Year week in Taiwan but you can enjoy biggest holiday season there. Weather-wise, it is not recommended period. Very cold in Korea, rain in Taiwan. Good luck!

I would bring winter clothing to Korea. It tends to snow well into February.

Thanks for that info... I am planning to travel around that date too to Asia. I should therefore avoid travel before Feb 7.

I think I'll be in the Philippines and Japan on Feb 12th to end Feb 24.

Happy planning! Thanks for that input too. Hayyy, that's why I'm getting expensive air ticket for travel before Feb 7. Thanks again... muah muah!
