Europe allowed the U.S. to be the main force in NATO as those European forces scaled back their military to fund their social programs. Many of these countries have multiple military placements. They are in Afganistan, NATO bases and defending their own countries for instance. Also a large force requires a larger supply, which could increase the amount of deadly accidents and would increase monitary costs.

NATO is not weak, they were and are strong enough to have faced down the Soviet Union.
The problem is not their strength, but their resolve. The European nations, led by the nose by their liberal/left leaders, feel that the solution to the problems in the Middle East is to constantly compromise and consult, just like Neville Chamberlain did with Hitler over Czechoslovakia in 1938. We all know how that turned out . . .

NATO is not weak my country-Romania have 80.000 troops ready for combat and NATO is not weak is very strong .The entire army of NATO will fight only in wars whit countrys who wants to conquer a Europe coutry.sorry for my english
