Are you agnostic?
I am too and well I take it pretty seriously....
I would find it odd to say "I have no knowledge of God, yet I sure do know what other people search for"
Dont generalize it makes you look silly.

I am an Atheist so you assume I have done nothing but look to sceince for all answers all the time... In that you are far from correct, I researched modern religions and religious beliefs looking for something that resonated as true to me. I found no religion or religious belief that felt true..

I then began looking at other beliefs and the history of beliefs.. During this research I began to see a pattern, humans don't understand something so a deity is invented who is responsible for that something thus in the minds of humans there is a reason for it happening I.E. Vulcan is angry so a volcano erupts, Typhon is angry and thus a typhone or hurricane happens, Neptune is angry thus a tidalwave or tsunami... All of these "gods" have become obsolete as humans have figured out and now understand the natural processes these "gods" were said to be responsible for..

Once I had figured out the process of gods being invented to explain what we (humans) did not understand yet, All the other bits fell into place, The "gods" of today are similar (See a bit later on post) to the "gods" of the Romans and Greeks someday the 'gods" of today will probably become obsolete just as the Greek and Roman "gods" have..

Will todays "gods" be replaced by others when they have become obsolete? If the pattern holds true.. However "gods" of today are slightly different from the "gods" of the past.. The "gods" of the past were many and varied in what they were responsible for each being responsible for only 1 or a few things... The "gods" of today are multitaskers with one "god" being responsible for everything.. So there is a possibility that the gods of today will not become obsolete but will evolve as we learn more and more...

Since the process of learning always created more unanswered questions the "gods" of today may still be around if only in name 1000, 2000 or even further along.. However they will not resemble the current belief as we will have learned what is truly responsible for some things attributed to them now and will have other unanswered questions they are then said to be responsible for..

I am taking the liberty in paraphrasing your question, ok?
"Atheists and Christians, have you done any test to support your claims?"

Yes, indeed! Many, many times; and the results shown to be positive! Through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, prayers are anwered to the convenience of His followers.(Jesus knows the better way to satisfy our every needs). The ransformation of lives that were destined to perish forever in hell are now examples of what The Christ can do even on the most miserable sinner. Read in the book of Acts, how Paul, a roman soldier, who persecuted christians and took them to be incarcerated had his life converted to be the most outstanding missionery who in his letters to various cities like his own people, the romans, to the philipians, the galatians, among others still bringing the message of hope
through faith in Our Lord Jesus Christ.
Learn about Tom Skinner, who was a drug dealer, and now is presenting the message of salvation after his conversion .
And last, but not least, Franklin Graham (son of well known Billy Graham; who was living a life of perdition, and after the prayers of his family, his life changed drastically. His testimony encourages anyone lost in the things of this world to live a life with meaning; to the glory of God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.
Brother, may the Lord guide you to find the answers to life's twists and turns in the reading of His Word, the Holy Bible.
May be you can start reading the Book of Proverbs, a chapter for every day of the month, The Book of Psalms, and the four gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke & John).
May the Lord richly bless you! Take care!

That is a broad category to throw everyone in.

How can you conclude that Christians or Atheists have not done scientific research or soul searching? What makes you different when you’re jumping conclusions also?

There are Christian Scientists and Creationist that spend their lives looking for scientific proof of God while maintaining their faith…

Ummm thats not a question thats a statement. And a false one. Many atheist including myself did not start as atheist. We searched for truth and reasonable meaning. I say reasonable because thats what led me to atheism. I have read the bible, the Koran, the tao te ching and many other books discussing meaning. But the real question is how do you test for meaning. Has anybody conclusively found any of this "meaning" thing your on about? No, meaning is relative and personal.

Have you done any tests to support your claims against us? Have you talked to each and every Atheist and Christian in the world to determine whether or not they have searched for meaning? The vast majority of Atheists I have talked to are former Christians, and I also am a former Christian. We have searched for meaning and found no faith or satisfaction in it.

I wouldn't say that.

At one point in time I had the complete HArvard Classic (boy is Origin of the Speices a dull read), one of the best collections of psychology books around, I read the Yaji trillogy (Castenedas), Be Here Now (Ram Das), I owned a Gita (another boring read), The Way of Zen (Alan Watts)

At one point I started the Bible the begnging and compared 7 different translations, quickly throwing out the living Bible. I think the translator for that one use to write the Dick and Jane and Spot books.

As an atheist, I do not believe in the preachings of the Bible but I would not pretend to have a definitive answer on anything. I have hope that there is something after death for all of us, it would certainly suck to think that when we die, there's nothing else. I would never claim to have a conclusive answer on the matter, no one can prove what happens after we die since no one has ever come back to tell us.

You know what they say about assumptions....

Besides, science is a process of searching for explanations. When you search for meaning, you are doing philosophy. Luckily, I happen to be a professional scientist (more of a mathematician, really) *and* a philosphy junkie.

These days, when I'm not working, I read all of the philosophy I can get my hands on.

I should also note that you are assuming there is some greater meaning out there to be discovered, when there probably isn't.

Most atheist were once part of a faith so that conclusion is completely wrong. But searching out "truth" they concluded they didn't believe in God. Not the other way around.

How do you know? A lot of Atheists are former Christians. But really, science versus a 2000 year old book, tough one. Science makes sense, the bible doesnt, why would an atheist look at anything else?
