Well, cat's are nocturnal by nature and he is acting like a cat. If you've only had him a week then he needs time to become adjusted to you and his new environment. Try to imagine what it must be like especially since it sounds like he might have been a stray. He doesn't hate you, he just doesn't fully trust you yet. Give him time and he will come to love you. Cats are very loving, they are just very suspicious by nature. He's trying to figure things out.

well first of all, don't pull him out of hiding, that's what makes a cat afraid of its owner. not giving it its space. and most cat meow through the night, that's normal too. he's hiding either because he's been mistreated in the pas tion some way, or because he's not yet used to his new surroundings. He probably doesn't hate you, you just give it space and when it wants attention, he'll ask for it.

It sounds like he's scared. Provide a good, calm, quiet environment for him with lots of toys, strings, balls, toilet paper rolls, etc, for him to want to come out. Let him get to know the people in your house very slowly, at his own pace. Don't have too many people over, if he's not used to it. If you have friends over, go to another room, to respect his privacy.
One week is still very new. It took my dog 6 months to finally stop crying and looking out the window, trying to escape.
Your cat will get used to its new home. Meanwhile, be patient, gentle, and respectful of his needs.

Some cats are really shy and it can take a while for them to settle it. Don't be overtly pushy but of course show him that you care. Try to get some toys that he can play with: some stuffed mice, string. One of my cats took around 2 weeks to settle in better (with me) and four weeks to trust my husband more. Remember that cats like peace and calm so try to minimise these at the moment. He will get around :-)

Aww, don't feel bad! Hes just not used to the new surroundings! He just has to get used to you (those are the best kinds of cats!) if theyre shy and they get used to you, theyre just be a "you" cat! So just take some time, give him treats like Friskies and he;ll know that you're a good person who gives him treats! lol good luck! =)!

i have actually had this problem before and usually it was when i moved to a new house. hes scared and need time to adjust to his new surroundings and the different noises. So i would just give him time and when he is out make sure to give him treats and attention he will soon become more relaxed. i hope this helps you out
