"Take your son, your only son – yes, Isaac, whom you love so much – and go to the land of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains, which I will point out to you." (Genesis 22:1-18)

This would be an easy decision for me to make. I would tell this Bronze Age god to kiss my youknowwhat and go buy my boy an ice cream and a new teddy bear.

I believe in God, but I would curse him if he asked me to sacrifice my only son. I would burn in hell for my son to live!

That was a hard test! Abraham knew and trusted God much better than I do! He knew God would raise Isaac back to life because he was the promised son that would cause Abraham to have as many decendents as the stars! Abraham felt what it was going to be like for God to give His only Son!

It may give some people pause, others not so much. But that's kind of the point. We have free will for a reason. We can choose to question parts of the bible...or all of it...or none of it. To me, that's kind of the moral of the story you quoted. Personally, I think Abraham was kind of a wuss. If somebody comes and tells me to kill my only son, I don't care if it's God or my wacky next door neighbor, they're getting a solid "NO!"
Others may not feel the same way I do, but again, that is their right as thinking, reasoning human beings.

God was telling Abraham and whoever read this scripture what was going to happen in the future,2000 years after that when God took His son,His only son and sacrificed him on that very same Mt. Mt. Moriah is Calvary or Golgotha.Remember when Abraham said "God will provide Himself a lamb".
God did indeed provide a lamb and it was ...Himself.
Forget about the "Oh how could God do that to Abraham" when you read that.See the future fulfillment.Abraham knew God wasn't going to kill his son.God had said Isaac was to become a great nation."Abraham believed God and it was counted to him as righteousness".
Abraham told his servants "We are going up to worship and WE will return".

God tested Abraham. Did Abraham love his only son more than God? Abraham passed the test with flying colors. The son was not sacrificed, but Abraham was willing to sacrifice him. It is a beautiful story.

to the average man or woman that would have been the hardest thing to do but because Abraham knew that god is not a liar that he would honor the covenant he had strong faith . see the reason you don't understand this because you are leaning on your own understanding and your not suppose to do that if god tells you something you have to trust god and just do it no matter how it hurts but god was testing Abraham now imagine if he had been disobedient to god he might of killed the child on the spot but Abraham new that god had blessed him with this son that he longed for he knew god would keep his promise so what seems crazy to you is not for us Christians who knew that god would bring that son back alive we know his word and we trust him so please do the same god bless

On the contrary it causes all sorts of doubts. For one, he contradicted that command. For two, did he ever really intend to make Abraham sacrifice his son?

Ah but God was only playing around there, so it's really fun for all the family.

No doubt as to what's being asked.

Plenty of doubt as to whether or not anyone should obey such a command.
