The camera is dated, but if you can find the S-VHS-C tapes to use that improves the resolution. Also, if your DVD recorder has "s" connectors for input, you are in luck, as that will greatly improve the quality of the playback from the camcorder. most of the camcorders of this class recorded HiFi audio for improved stereo sound as well. So it is not a bad buy if it works otherwise. Getting the tapes might be a chore, but if you transfer your shots to DVD, you can re-use the same tapes over again. Always use the standard play setting, and that is about 20 or 30 minutes per tape. The only thing to really worry about is the battery system. Getting replacement chargers and batteries might be difficult.

Some modern camcorders have an analog-to-digital pass-thru...this will allow you to connect your old camcorder to your computer (through the new camcorder). Once you can get a digital signal to your computer you can do the rest. Also, consider getting a hard-drive based camcorder...I have a DVD-based one and hate it.

They are getting a bit old these days but they are ok'ish. As long as the camera has somesort of AV output then you will be able to transfer the tapes to DVD.
