I am a short order chef and in my restaurant there are signs all over that say " Employees must wash their hands." I feel that this is so pushy and over-the-top. I, for one, do not believe that I have to wash all the time. There are times when i go and I don't get pee all over my hand and if I go number 2 its not like I shove my whole hand up there. I feel that by taking the time to wash my hand is a waste of time that could be spent cooking some food. Who agrees?

We may agree or disagree, but washing your hands is required by every municipality's health code. Not doing so, can get your restaurant closed down. In most areas a restaurant must have at least one licensed food handler who has completed a course which emphasizes basic hygene. Washing your hands frequently, especially after using the bathroom or handling raw meat and seafood, is the best way to decrease the spread of infectious disease and food poisoning. If you think it's not important, why not ask the restaurant owner, if he'd mind you putting up a sign for the customers which reads " chef doesn't feel he needs to wash his hands after peeing, so he doesn't".

Don't be so lazy... wash your hands.

To keep the food clean, ofcourse you have to wash your hands very often! I wonder why you ask such a question as less people, I believe, will agree with you. And yet, don't use your disgusting example up there. Honestly, I think that chefs have the responsibility to cook healthy and clean food. If your cookings are dirty or even cause stomachache, customers will leave.

Yeah, now I know not to eat at any TGIFs!!!

You're preparing food that we put in our mouths! Let's say Fred has the flu, but comes to TGIF to work anyway. He sneezes in his hands, then opens the bathroom door.

Later, you open the bathroom door, then after you pee or crap or whatever, you don't wash your hands.

Not only do you have those left over flu germs on your hands, you also have germs from yourself using the john.

Wash them! If people get sick from eating there, they won't come back and that could lead to lost jobs. Like, yours!

I don't even know how to respond. All I can say is that you'd be out of a job if your boss knew about you not washing your hands. It really is disgusting thinking about all those germs, bacterias and potential diseases you could be spreading.

I won't even touch my own food without washing my hands after going to the bathroom.

Did you go to school to be a chef, because if you did, you would understand the importance of washing your hands while working in a kitchen.

Wash your hands whenever they become contaminated. Touching your nose, a door handle, faucet handle.

Your industry is the major reason people get food poisoning. I dont care if you did not pee all over your hand?! You had to fish your unit out of your pants, didnt you?

I dont know that you dont have herpes or the clap, or some fromunda cheese down there. PLEASE! WASH YOUR HANDS! MY HEALTH IS ON THE LINE!

Well, I certainly won't be going to a TGIF any time.

"Hygiene" is more than just a greeting. 20 seconds isn't going to make that big of a difference with a flat grilled steak, OK?

No wonder I got food poisoning the last time I ate at a TGIF.

Never again!

Someone needs to call the health department on your dumb a$$. Are you 5 years old? Ever heard of Hepatitis A, campylobacter?
What city are you in? And how do you keep your job?

I don't agree with you. I think washing your hands is just good hygiene and I would think that since you hand food, you would want to ensure that your meals are up to par on all levels.
