My price boundary would be $500 or less would be better. I'm thinking whether a Canon or a Sony. I currently have the Canon IXUS 750 but I don't why I'm not that happy with it, no problems though, but I think theres better out there. I like the Sony N2 or the T20, or T100 but I heard that Canon's are more durable. I want a wide screen and that anti shake whatever. and also I want 1 second thing, that thing that takes the photo fast with no delay. my canon delays sometimes. and also curious about thouse underwater camera's but that's a different matter, are they just cases or the entire camera altogether? thanks for the help. =)

I would personally reccomend the Canon Powershot SD 1000. At 7.1 Mexapixels it produces a brilliant image. It has alot of extra features like facial recognition. Right now it is about $250. The SD 800, is a bit more expensive and it comes with Image Stabalization. In it's price range, it is one of the best DC's out there.

Firstly- you may want to question why you want a Canon or a Sony.

There are two phases of delay. The Auto focus portion, when you press the button 1/2 way down, and the response when fully pressed. All (non-dslr) digicams use a contrast detection for focus, however some focus much faster than others. A fast focus will be within 0.2-0.3 seconds. Casio's are pretty quick as are the fuji's - although it depends on the model. Canon's are not the fastest to focus, usually 0.5-0.6sec, but are pretty reliable when they do. The nikon P5000 is painfully slow, at well over a second. (ouch)

The second part, the response after pre-focus, is about 0.1 sec on most cameras, but some cameras do it blazingly fast. Some Sony's (like the T100) are very good in this regard. Anything less than 10msec (0.01sec) is really good here. My Fuji F31 is quite good here as well.

There are a few cameras that are actually waterproof. The Pentax W30 and the Olympus 770SW

You really need to read the professional reviews that clock these numbers in various situations.

I've been using Pentax 35mm for years, & I've just bought a Pentax K100 DSLR for £300.00. It has antishake, ranges from fully automatic to ypur own settings and really does the business. Hope this helps.
