This mean that on the keyboad there is the tab button hence it has got its function so i need to know how you can set it so that to easy writing interm of culumns.

The Tab button isn't for the purpose of setting Tabs in documents. What you are probabky asking for is the BookMark feature. See the webpages below for instructions on setting Bookmarks in Word 2002 and 2003 (should be a similar process for other versions of Word)
