Wow, you sound weary. You have to do what is right for you. Many folks are fullfilled following Christ and many others spend their life times chasing after that elusive dream. It's completely up to you - free will and all that. You can't have it both ways though. You have to decide who is more important - you or God. If you choose yourself, then you should know in the back of your mind that God is waiting for you with open arms. No, do not give into religion - Religion and Believing in God are two very different things.

Not give in to religion, but to surrender to Jesus Christ.
As far as the pursuit of personal happiness and freedom, if you pursue Christ above all else, somehow or another, you get more happiness and freedom than you ever could have known otherwise.
God gives you new desires in your heart. Your priorities change, your entire perception of things is changed, because you see things from a spiritual perspective you would never have known without Christ.

I certainly don't have all the answers Learydisciple, but I know a man who once walked this Earth and Loves you so, so much He died and rose again, to save you from your sin and Eternal damnation, and bore 40 minus 1 stripes so you could be made whole physically, spiritually and mentally. And He can give you that hope if you were to come to Him, that you will have freedom and joy and many, many blessings, if you had that personal relationship with Him.
May I pray for Him to give you the answer your looking for in your hurt, maybe lonely soul that aches for more than this life can offer?
Thankyou, I will now.

If you know religion will give you a false sense of purpose, you won't be happy trying to follow it.

But if you live just a life of hedonism, you ultimately won't be happy there, either.

Those are not the only choices you have. Only you can pick the path you'll follow. Be rational, choose wisely, and you'll find the path to happiness.

Well I have religion but that's not where I get my sense of purpose. I spend my life in pursuit of personal happiness as well. Sometimes through religion, sometimes through life. So eh, what ever works for you.

Why do you assume that you need religion to be happy or free? Look at me: non-religious since day one. I've been free all this life. Not always happy, but far from being miserable.

Also, you don't need "religion" to have hope for eternity. There's alot of "religious" people in hellish eternity right now. Satan loves religious people. Now, people of strong, unshakeable faith who can punt his a*ss around like the old pigskin- those are the ones whom he fears.

And he should. Should you "give in" to religion? I'd say no, but that's your choice. To God? I'd say definitely. Again, -your choice.

I think you should follow a religion. You don't know religion is b.s. I think It's better to be on the safe side than not to be and be in danger of eternal damnation. I'm not trying to scare you. I'm just telling you what I think. After all, that is one of the reasons I follow Christianity because I don't want to go to hell.

If you choose only to follow a religion, then I would suggest you save time and don't bother. Without a personal relationship with God, religion (no matter which one) is futile. And as to blissful hope for the future...if you have a personal relationship with God, your present and future will merge. God is with us now...not just after we die.

Religion more often then not will get you nowhere. it's all about the heart. To know truly know Jesus is not about religion. Its about a relationship. Knowing Jesus as your personnel saver and Lord. gives you a peace that past all understanding. I know cause was raised in religion all my life and believe you me I have seen alot of as you put it "b.s." But if you truly seek Jesus will you find him! The Bible says, "seek and you shall find, ask and it shall be given you." I pray that you find your answer.

Do not give into anything if it will compromise your principles.

The evidence shows that life is pretty short, and there is no proof of an afterlife. This makes every moment precious, and happiness and freedom are among those pleasures.
