My husband is working at a new job (started 2 days ago). well the foreman running the job puts down 8 hours and then leaves after 2. Once he leaves, the crew has to leave. This guy has been doing this about 2 years. My husband has worked for this company before, many years ago. Should he say something to the boss about this? He's nervous as the new guy and they may not believe him. He's also afraid that if boss finds out and he never said anything, he could be fired for that. Or they find out and say well you really only worked x amount of hours so that is what we will pay you. I can't even begin to think of an answer and any help would be greatly appreciated.

How much contact with the boss does your husband have? Does he see him every day or once a week or so? If that is the case then he could "thank" the boss because this was the best job he had ever had and that he had never worked anywhere that only made him work 2 hours a day before. The boss may think he is kidding but if he does this enough times then the boss will question him about it and then your husband (while still acting innocent) will keep telling him they are only working 2 hours a day.

Something else is to maybe your husband call the boss and say that since the crew was let off early that day, was there any other jobs that your husband could do. This would inform the boss that there is something wrong and also let him know that your husband is willing to work.

In any event, I do not see your husband staying at this job. Lets say the boss fixes the situation. The foreman will probably be fired but the rest of the crew will now be working 8 hour days, thanks to your husband. They will do their best to drive him out or get him fired for something else. If the boss ignores the problem and it gets back to the foreman that your husband "dropped the dime" on him then that foreman will do whatever he can to get your husband out of the job.

The wisest course of action is for your husband to put in his notice and explain to the boss that he cannot work for a person an unethical as that foreman and then explain the situation. Also, ask him if he could give your husband a good reference for another job. During the process, your husband would need to keep his emotions in check and not let himself talk in anger. There is always the chance that the boss may be impressed by this and find a job elsewhere for your husband.

The longer your husband works this job then the worse it is going to be. There will always be the chance of being found out by the boss and also there is always the chance that the wages could be cut to compensate for not working enough hours.

This is a sticky situation.
You're husband should go to his boss.
Wanna know why? Embezzlement. No joke, this is straight up embezzlement and he can be arrested and thrown in jail for it.
Embezzlement isn't just taking money out of a cash register, it's also saying you did more work than what you did.

But be careful, have your husband demand he be kept anonymous. You saying that there is a foreman, I'm assuming it's construction, and people working construction can be dangerous.

But I would not risk having your husband go to jail because he's too scared to say anything or because he may get paid less.

Theft is theft & that's exactly what this is. I'd suggest an anonomous note / letter that outlines what's going on. The boss then can do what he / she likes and your hubby's conscience is clear. Maybe the boss is padding things as well?
