I think it is adorable! I wish my cat would do it. I think it means she/he wants more interaction with you. When you discover the stash, play with the cat and tell her she's good. Pay her more attention.
My cat used to have a towel/pad to lounge on. Once I picked it up, there were about 8 bugs she had killed and hidden under the pad. Summer small bugs. I disposed of it, but still thought she is pretty smart!

Maybe they are trying to tell you they need more toys! If you have an extra hyper cat, you should get him some more toys for him to play with. Also.. some cats just like imitating people. My cat will open up and close cupboards for no reason I can see except he sees *US* always opening and closing them! So, maybe he sees you carrying around those object and wants to imitate you!

Haha! Love it! He is just playful.
My cat gets on my computer desk and steals pens, highlighters and clips.
He takes them and bats them around on the floor.

Cats are tricksters like that whatever they can take to play with or drag under the couch they will. Mine really likes socks they even jump into the clothes hamper to get dirty ones to play with
