I have known 3 born again christians in my life, and only one of them hasn't commited suicide yet and that's probably because they're keeping all the sharp things away from her. Why are they so suicidal? Isn't suicide against their religion anyway?

I'd like to add that they ARE really keeping sharp objects away from her, that wasn't a joke or anything.

I'd also like to state that annabanana is certainly correct in her belief that suicide is not a selfish act.

Born again Christians are often people who have issues in their life before they "find Jesus" (whatever that means). You have to be in a pretty vulnerable state to turn to God so abruptly. Thus as a group, they are more likely to self harm, including committing suicide.

Do you know this is such an in depth thing! I was drawn to be a committed Christian and have really struggled to be a decent person. I really struggle to be in God's sight worthy of His divine love. It is impossible because I sin all the time I'm ashamed to say. But she must not give up. She dosn't have to worry about being good and acceptable all the time becos its not necessary. Just do what you can when you can and as best you can and after that there is nothing else you can do. Just be yourself as a Christian and ask the Lord to help you with your decisions - ask him for 'wisdom' - if you ask for wisdom you can't fail because everything will fall into place.

In the church I used to go to, you look around and see all these people who seem so holy and good. They pray such beautiful prayers. I'm gobsmacked sometimes.

I find it very hard to live up to scratch - this creates a mind thing going on. I find that if a lot of rubbish is going on in my head I just say 'Get thee behind me Satan - Jesus says' - I say this as a sharp command and repeat it several times. And all the rubbish goes away. Ask Jesus to fill the void with His Holy Spirit and you will feel a calm come over you. I do believe in Jesus but I can tell you this in all truth - theres a battle going on for your soul. Even is shes done something really terrible, Jesus will never leave her.

If this sounds freeky I apologise and I will pray for this person who sounds very troubled. When she is alone and needs someone to talk to there is always 'Samaritans' who, altho can't give advice, are always there to listen - and they listen good. Take care. xxx

Suicide has nothing to do with religion (unless its some sort of terrorism as we have seen over the last few years)
People who attempt suicide have severe depression and can't find a way out of life. They will have deeper problem, nothing to do with thier faith
I was christened a catholic (although im not very religious) and i couldn't care less whether its against my religion or not and i have tryed in the past
You need to take suicide seriously and recognise that religion has absolutly nothing to do whether someone wants to die or not x

SUICIDE IS NOT A SELFISH ACT!
remember that

for the individuals who have committed suicide it had nothing to do with being a Born Again Christian. Absurd. This had to do with severe depression and not knowing had to deal with life. No one ever really knows why a person decides to take their lives. It is so sad...you should always have someone you can talk too, before taking your own life.

I've known lots and lots of born again Christians for years and years, and none of them has committed suicide. I've known two people who committed suicide, both were not Christians. I'd say it's just a coincidence.

People are complicated, and they don't necessarily fit pefectly into certain molds or models of behavior.

Some people with psychiatric and/or drug problems turn to religion as a way to deal with their issues.

Some of them eventually overcome their problems, and some of them don't.

I have known one religious person who committed suicide and another one who might have.

One was a "Jesus Freak" (70s thing, Christians who dressed like hippies)--I went to high school with him. He killed himself, it was a big shock. His mother had serious mental health issues, and I guess he did too.

Another was a guy who belonged to Iskcon (Hare Krishna), but nobody knows for sure if it was suicide, murder or an accident--he drowned in the ocean.

I am saddened for your losses. Protect the other as best u can.

The teachings I am familiar with include a life in vain. Suicide is taking what God has given and destroying his majesty. Something like that. Suicide is a selfish act. Often selected after a short spell of depression or irrational thinking. I usually tell people to sleep on it. If you feel the same in the morning... you can take them to the hospital because it is also illegal. If that is what it takes to save them.
Why? Some say it is a desperate call for care and comfort they live without. Or so they think. It is a cry for attention. In these fast food days few consider the finality of the act. Worse they do not imagine the lives they take down with them. A good friend in High School, Beth Junk, popular and pretty killed herself. Her Father took his life shorty after leaving the rest of family devastated for life. One sis in laws cousin jumped out a window of a high rise in Hawaii. My Brother had to clean his apartment Id the body and take care as his Korean wife went crazy. He walked her down the aisle just a few years earlier. B4 the jump he destroyed his body in the apt. No one has ever been the same. SO u talk to people who have lived while others die at their own hand. Take them to the mental wards for interviews. Wake up calls or scared straight. At the very least explain how many others die along with them.
Good luck. and God bless.

Yes, it is. I, as a born again Christian, am sometimes depressed. We feel things more close to the heart and that's why we take things offensively, so it can take the slightest offense to throw someone off their "happiness".. God has saved me and it is real sad that they couldn't talk to God about this, which is normal, because most people never learn to know God and really communicate with him. Don't take these cases as examples because I can tell you now, they never learnt to speak to God as a friend and I haven't felt such a great love in all my life since I was reborn! I suggest you research and speak to some pastors(preferrably youth), I promise they won't bite.

Perhaps they turned to religion seeking solutions to their problems in the first place. Religion and suicide are 2 different issues.

It may be cause by depression and i mean the medical depression. There is something triggers that depression and i can't point out it alone, unless someone close to him will tell me. It's very rare, if any, that an individual will attempt suicide because of his religion.
