I think more people suffer from depression these days because of many things. The world we live in today, moves at such a fast pace, which causes stress. Most people's lives are unbalanced, they work too hard and play hardly at all. In today's world, both parents need to work to support a family, it leaves children to raise themselves or it becomes someone Else's job (As in daycare). This not only depresses the parents (most often the Mom) but the children seem to feel abandoned and unwanted as a result, in the end this causes them to act out, mostly negatively. In a single parent household, it becomes even more stressful, to try keep up with the bills, meals, shopping, cleaning, be there for your child emotionally then take time to smell the roses is near impossible (Unbalance, again). With today's technology, bad news seems to be on the fore font of the Internet, newspaper and if you turn on the TV the headlines on CNN, Fox news and most other channels we are inundated with the latest murders, gossip and the days horrors in other societies as well. It would be too simplistic to think that some God in the sky wants us to be Happy and thus it is so. These times are filled with worry about tomorrow, our earth, our children, our health, and on and on.

Sin is the root of all the worlds sorrows. It destroys the life in the soul. Darkness falls and how deep can the darkness be.
Every human soul wants to be happy it is innate the problem is many do not know what will make them happy. They often chose wrongly in that pursuit. Sex, drugs, creative goods, immoral entertainment and so on. Only in God can one find true peace and happiness

Because there are a lot of people who aren't connecting to God in any way , shape or form !

You see we are wired to be spiritual beings & if we choose to ignore God , the space inside our spirit is either filled with a substitute or we end up having depressive type issues!

Sorry dude there is by no means a safe answer for this question.

God is not responsible for our lives... We are. God does not make choices... but we do... So to expect that when the bible says god loves us and then automatically think that he is responsible for our happiness is way off...

The bible also said... "Let him that hath understanding recon the number..." - Why is he not telling us all the angles on this one... maybe because he wants you to take control of your life and live it to the full but in his name... not expect him to fix anything as he won't, he will grant strength but that's about it... the rest is up to you and no god nor angel will walk your path for you.

I am not Christian but I do have to say this: People need to stop blaming there own inability to be happy on some higher power. Nothing can make you happy except for yourself. A Deity is like a parent, they can try to lead you to something but they can't force you. That's not how teaching works.

People in general tend to think of themselves as individuals and as such whatever their condition they think it's their cause.

The truth is there is a fabric of consciousness that connects all people, all life and it contains all of the minds of all of us.

Now, just consider the possibility that this is true. If you really think about how the majority of people are, they are aggressive, selfish, and lustful. They lust after sense gratification constantly.

Now think about what makes someone peaceful. Relaxation, not being in need, having enough food, not being aggravated. Then consider how that is juxtaposed to how most of the people in the world are living their lives?

So in order to be 'happy' you have to deny your true nature which is being one with all of this cacaphony and to project your self-created happiness onto this fabric of murder and mahem. How are you doing with that? Having much success? Listen to the news about Iraq and our national debt that our great grandchildren will have to pay? Happy yet? :-)

IMO.. That depends on the definition of happy.. if happy is intended to mean in terms of the world (money, job, house, car.. etc), God does not care if we are happy that way, you get what you work for (we each create that happiness ourselves).. if you mean spiritually.. then He does.

1 Peter 3:14 - But and if ye suffer for righteousness' sake, happy are ye: and be not afraid of their terror, neither be troubled;

1 Peter 4:14 - If ye be reproached for the name of Christ, happy are ye; for the spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you: on their part he is evil spoken of, but on your part he is glorified.

They haven't opened up their hearts to God and allowed him to be the head of their lives.

Because they have not gotten their selves back to God, they have not made the right choice.
