You must try them all. Mattress stores encourage you to try a soft, medium and hard mattress to find out what your comfort level is and then whether you like a pillow top or not. Most mattress stores offer the foam as well. Also look at the select comfort beds. They are usually sold in their own stores. A bit more expensive but very nice. When looking at regular mattresses keep in mind the depth as you will need deeper sheets for them.

I highly recommend against an inner-spring mattress (aka regular mattress). They wear out in about 5-10 years and do not support your body like it needs. While more expensive, I would recommend a memory foam or air (Select Comfort) mattress. They last for a *long* time and are much better for your back.

After all, how much is it worth to be well rested?

A Memory Foam mattress. We bought one about 7 months ago and I will NEVER go back to a standard mattress with springs ever again!

I have not had a headache, or a sore back, or a sleepless night since.

The best part is when my husband turns over, I can not even feel him moving! (husband does not just roll over, he flips)

A pillow top. You will NOT go wrong. Any brand, I have a cheap one (dont remember the brand) but it was one of the cheapest, that is THE BEST mattress and I will NEVER have anything but a pillow top. Greatest luck to you and I hope when you get your mattress you can sleep comfy! ;-)

Since everyone has different body weights, sleeping positions, neck-back-hip issues, and personal comfort preferences, only you can determine which configuration is "a good mattress".

Consider firm talalay latex with a wool fleece pad.

My husband and I like our Sleep Number bed by Select Comfort.

Each side adjusts in firmness independently, so you both get exactly the firmness you want.

I CANNOT recommend a SEALY. I had purchased a new one, and within 6 mos it had to be replaced. The co did replace, but the 2nd one is just as bad.
