my mozilla firefox browser encounters problems only when approaching password protected areas of websites?

Instead of being prompted for my user name and password the browser konks out and produces the error message that "the connection has timed out" and "...is taking too long to respond".
Otherwise the browser works fine. It is version 2.0.0.4 thx.

i'm using firefox with the latest version and i don't have any problem with it.
try reinstalling firefox or have fresh install of the latest version.
be sure to back up any add-on you've added

The website is password protected. You can't login without a User name and password supplied by them.
