what kind of skills do you have that are needed in the US? i understand that the need for skilled tool makers, electronic technicians and machine operators are on the raise

If you know someone over (or not), why not go over and stay with them for a while & try & get a job while your there...save up a bit of money first to keep you going. It'd be handier to get a job while you're there instead of when you're in UK

Not easy to just move there. I suggest that you write to the US embassy and ask them what you should do.
