Trying to get clean off pain meds but do it slowly! Just wondering if anyone out there has had any experience with the drug Fentynal (Duragesic Pain Patches @ 125 mg every 2 days) or methadone pills. Question is: "Will the methadone help me get off these oh so addicting patches THAT I'VE BEEN ON FOR 2 YEARS NOW or am I only going to REPLACE AN EVIL WITH ANOTHER EVIL? Another words will the methadone be just as hard to kick? THANX VERY MUCH! JOHN

Yes, methadone is very addicting. I have heard it said that methadone is more addicting than heroin. However, if you're trying to get off the patches, the methadone may be the drug for you, due to it's long duration. It is usually taken only once or twice daily, depending on the patient. Sorry it's not the answer you wanted to hear, but yes, methadone is a Monster to kick.

I can answer this question personally for you as I went through patch withdrawls last New Years.

Methadone is so, so, so more addictive, potent, toxic and DANGEROUS and so much harder to get off of. It is so potent. And will get you off your face. Don't go there. Please.

Go and see your Doctor about cutting down the dosage of patches. That's the only way to do it. It's long but quicker than Methadone withdrawl.
It's frustrating that when you make up your mind to quit and are mentally ready that you can't just stop! The Methadone will get you off the patches overnight, but then you have a worse and harder addiction to deal with.

I am not going to lie to you and I certainly don't want to scare you, but I really wish someone had told me the truth of what to expect from withdrawls from these patches. It's not just like having a bad dose of the flu......

Cutting down on your dose will help with the withdrawls totally. You will still suffer some, but NO WHERE AS NEAR AS MUCH. As if you go 'cold turkey' or change drugs.

I don't wish to tell you, in case you would rather not know, about withdrawl symptoms from patches. Some people rather not know. But if you do you can message me.

But I will let you are very brave and STRONG for even deciding that it may or is time to come off of the pain meds.

Good luck and message me if you want, truth or support.
I have been there.

Stick it out. Make it clear to him that it will mean BAD things if he goes back to his addiction. Opiate withdrawal is real tough. . . The thing is that methadone will make it take a lot longer to get over, but mediates the painful symptoms associated with going cold turkey. See what it's like when they take his dose down a bit. Methadone is basically the same stuff he was addicted to, but he probably doesn't feel the same effects because they give you enough to occupy the same brain receptors, but not for the euphoria you get from higher doses. Methadone stays in your system longer too.

Methadone is a horrible drug that last a long time in your system, but that's last a lot of duragesic. Unless your methadone dosage is 10mg or less I would stay away from it.
