Im new with using RAID for my pc so please bear with me.

In an event of a hard drive failure running RAID level 1 which I believe is mirroring. How can I recover from the loss? Like, If one fails, I have a copy at the second drive. Right? Then How can I install a new drive to replace the failed hard drive? Should I just pop it in and that should "mirror" by itself or will I need a software that will clone the working hard drive unto the new hard drive then reinstall the RAID Array.

Rebuilding of your previous configuration after replacing the faulty drive depends on what controller you use. Majority of the onboard raid like NVidia have the feature to rebuild automatically when new drive is plugged in. In the case of Intel Raid, you need to manually activate the rebuild option in the raid rom software in windows after plugging the new disk.Does that make sense?

In most RAID controller BIOS, the menu has the rebuild capability built-in to help to copy all the data from one drive to the other in RAID1 (although it may be slow if you have a big hd). If you are using software raid, it will be tools dependent.

the last variant is more appropriate, i think. You can use smth like Migrate Easy from Acronis. It isn't free, but trial version is accessible.
