HP own Compaq - so the name Compaq is just used for some of HP's range... typically those more aimed at businesses.

Probably as a result of that the Compaq (laptops) tend to be less feature-rich and more resilient to physical abuse than HP (laptops).

They are basically the same thing, but HPs tend to be the higher end models of processors and amount of memory, etc. Go with an HP.

The same company owns both brand names, so it really doesn't matter.

The computers are the same inside.
