Surely it should say on your letter/results slip exactly what you got and how did you manage to go through 3 years of a university course without knowing the relative values of different grades of degree?

Most employers now ask for a upper second aka 2:1. However a lower second aka 2:2 isn't bad though, around average.

1st category is best, 2nd next and 3rd next. Did you expect anything else than this order? What was your degree in - the bleeding obvious?
