I don't have laundry detergent and I have to wash clothes or I have nothing to wear. I couldn't find anything online about this.

There is a washing machine and drying machines that I can use downstairs. I just have to put in a dollars worth of quarters, which I have.

What can I do if I don't have immediate access to detergent? Can I use my bathroom soap or anything to make up for that?

I know this is real ghetto but just use one of the following:
- dish soap
- hand soap
- shampoo
When using these make sure you don't put too much in or you will get quite a foamy mess. There aren't real great substitues but will work if you are in a pinch. I don't recomend using them alot as some soaps may have the tendency to give your clothes a wierd greasy kind of feel to them. Don't worry though as they will be visible and smellably clean. If all else fails just ask a friend or relative to front you some laundry soap until payday. Hope that helps.

Don't fall for the eco-balls. The only reason they appear to work is that your clothes retain a residue of detergent through several washes -- enough to get the clothes cleat without adding detergent. Tests have shown the eco-balls useless, and a waste of money (there was an expose' about it on TV a while back, but I don't remember what show presented it.) Check with a natural foods store, or the natural foods section of your grocery store. Ecologically friendly products are becoming more available at prices comparable to the more damaging products. I use a liquid put out by a company called Seventh Generation. Their citrus scent product makes clothes smell nice and doesn't make my allergies kick up. In general, liquid detergents are less ecologically damaging than powders.

The thing about detergent is that it is low suds or bubbles...
People use octagon bar soap along with the detergent to get clothes clean...

If you use dish soap only use a small amount (like one teaspoon for heavy loads, 1/2 teaspoon for light ones) because it SUDS. you can use vineagar because the water washes it out and you won't smell like a pickle. Really, unless your clothes are filthy, you can wash them just in water this once and they'll still smell and look clean.

Do you have any baking soda? If you do use about 1/2. c in the wash it will atleast clean/freshen your clothes without using "soap".... If you have stains try and pretreat them with a little dab of shampoo
