The sea is used as an image the represents Mankind. Or Ego.
One interpretation could be that this is a simple teaching story. It asks the most basic of questions.
Simply put- the sea is the sea of all man. Of mother, father, son, daughter. It is society, the world.
And the asker questions the only person he trusts, his mother. Why do we feel happy when we get what we want and shine (glinting in the sun)? Why do we feel sad when we fail (and break on a rocky shore)? And why are we only at peace, when we are dead? (the comfort of the deep)

This is a terrific poem. The writer is comparing the sea to the emotions of human beings. There is joy, sorrow, and peace. The relationship between mother and child is very touching as it shows that sometimes people question why there is happiness, sadness, and finally peace. And the relationship also shows there is a reason for all of these things and that everything is okay, it is simply a part of being like the ocean.
Thank you for sharing this lovely poem here today.

A mother answers her child's questions about the sea manifesting its different attitudes. In the process she teaches her child how one can & should learn to care for the feelings and emotions of others. It is happy on a sunny day and wishes to see everyone happy. When sea is 'hurt' by the rocky shore, it weeps even more for the world's sufferings, rather than its own. When it is calm, it wants to impart its peace to the people and make them comfortable.
I wish I could make it simpler! Poem is so touching.

Did you write this? It seems like an unfinished line or question! I guess if your heart is ever trying to be some kind of butterfly that does something that you didn't finish: my interpretation would be that the heart is constantly fluttering, maybe you will always be in a nervouse state of love with someone or it could be that your love will always feel as though you are just becoming a butterly from a caterpillar with possibilities endless

The writer personifies the sea and its activities are paralleled to human emotions. Nature in the form of sea is being shown as all in all, Its mother nature who (which ) becomes sad and happy with human beings (sons), or you find nature in the same emotion for what you are being stricken currently..

It is simply an expression of the three major emotions of humanity--joy, sadness, and tranquillity, using the action and qualities of the sea as metaphors. Very well done.

It shows that the sea is showing human charateristics. The child is asking why do we sob, why do we laugh and why is it so peaceful. Our human characteritistics are laughing, sobing and peace.

it talks about nature being a big part of our lives; the reference to mother and child pertains to Mother Nature as a nurturing/caring mother to all of us her children, the inhabitants of earth
