For a beginner it will be difficult. If you knew your scales pretty well, it would be easy. The thing is most songs if you know the key and you know your scales, you pretty much have the basic structure of the song already. This is because there are no random note songs, they follow a formula, you will notice most songs play a beat a while then move up and play a while switch back to the original then move up two for a while then back to the start.
That is called 12 bar, but you might also hear it called Round Robin as well. You put a solo in the middle and at the end and you are cooking. I many times play songs I remember hearing on the radio years ago, I just pick up my guitar and start playing them because I know my scales. True I have to add my own solos impromptu but that is cool I enjoy that anyway. With understanding scales you can actually get to the point where you can predict what note will come next even if you never heard the song before. Scales are that important!

Good Luck! :-D

By the way Purple Haze was my very first song I learned back in the mid 80's when I was first teaching myself how to play! Yes I picked a hard one, but it rocks!

Depends on the difficulty of the song. If each from the 5 songs only use 3-4 chords, maybe u can learn 10 songs in 5 days..

I've had to learn 10 songs on bass guitar in 2hrs and got away with it but then I've been playing for over 20 years. For a newbie I'd recommend Bert Weedon's "Play in a Day" book which will give you enough chords etc to play a number of songs.

That depends on how advanced the student is, how complicated the songs are, and how much time the performer has to practice. However, as certain chord progressions repeat themselves thousands of times in certain DIFFERENT songs, all you might have to learn is the new words, if there are any.

Kumbaya was the first song I learnt. You only need to use 3 cords... A D & E.
A
Kumbaya my lord
D
Kumbaya
A
Kumbaya my lord
E
Kumbaya

"Repeat that 1st 2 again & then"

D A
Oh, lord
E
Kumbaya

The more you practice, the faster you'll get & then you can add a little more rythem & expand teh song a bit by adding more stokes to the cords accordingly.
