sometimes you can tell by ethnicity..there are the caucasians, asians, african americans, and some latinos who come to visit hawaii.
usually i either see them wearing aloha shorts with kind of high men shorts (gross!!) and those ugly brown sandals with straps on them or shoes. most likely a hat and/or map or bag or camera/video camera with them. obviously the way they speak as well as their skin color. they also pronounce places wrong

Around my section of the Ozarks, a tourist is pretty much anyone with vehicle tags from anywhere but Arkansas or Missouri and who doesn't have even so much as a hint of a southern accent.

When they don't speak the lingo, try to ask questions at every corner, and do not seem to know that they are being charged a higher price for some items, in which case they don't really care coz they have plenty of moolah.

They don't know any better to NOT stand on the left side of the escalator as that is the side used by those who want to walk up it instead of just ride it... and likewise when coming down the escalator. They just get in everyone's way, and say, "O... I'm sorry."

travelers generally placed on particularly vivid shirts (like international orange), are wearing a fanny %., and are taking particularly some photographs of each and every thing. additionally particularly some families finally end up wearing the comparable style of clothing so as that truly everyone can shop track of another. purely a tad frightening.

here in glasgow, there are 2 give aways, 1-they have a camera AROUND their neck, locals know better!
and 2-they all walk staring all around them, drinking in the scenery, whether it be city or countryside, we the natives are used to it, but it is awe inspiring if you are a visitor
