Depends.

I usually tell people when I'm upset with something, but if the person is being a complete jerk about it or if I sense that they don't really care, then I'd tell them that I'm fine --- or that they can go to hell.

A friend of mine would always say she was fine when she wasn't, but that was usually because she wasn't ready to talk about it or needed some time to cool down. I wouldn't leave her alone about it, but I'd give her some space, first.

Some people just don't want to open up about their true feelings at all because they feel like they're bothering others if they do. And then others just want to vent their anger/frustration by making others around them crazy for a little while.

Sometimes yes, because by telling somebody that cares for you ,you aren't fine makes you impart your sadness or worries to him. BUT sometimes i tell the truth too (that I'm not fine) because the are some hard times you can pass it alone so you need someone to comfort you and stand by you also sometimes i say I'm not fine because i don't always want to be an hypocrite and hide my real feelings inside me.!!

Yes.Usually when someone says "how are you" they are just making conversation like"have a good day"and I would answer it truthfully.I found that it threw people when you gave them the answer they were NOT expecting. And really, most people dont care, and if your reply is not 100% positive as in "Im fine" or "back at ya" it throws them also.So I make it a point to never ask someone how they are unless Im really sincere about it.

No. I tell them in a strong sense that i am not fine ( in a sense that i am fine to manage my ' not fine') so they silent because they know or sure that i dont need their help not either their question.
So, our statements that will invite the responses we like or not. Not only our situations. I can be totally in a disastrous while my response to the disaster is calm, then people? certainly understood that i dont need their help.

Yes... Mostly because I dont want them to know something is wrong. If I tell them that I am not fine and they ask me what it is and I tell them they are likely going to think Im an idiot or they wont even care.

Even though it is sometimes expected, I am not always going to lie about how I feel, not that I ever really do in the first place.
