Hey, the way I see it, engineering suits anyone who wants to make a go of it and is willing to put in the work needed to pull off being successful in the field - it doesn't matter if the person's male or female.

To find out what courses suit you, go to the library and get books on subjects that interest you (like engineering and chemistry) and read up on those things. Talk to people who work in those fields. See if there are any courses or clubs at school that could help you to learn more about the subjects. Talk to a guidance counselor at school. Those are all things that can help you decide what interests you.

Well... certainly not English ;)

If you like chemistry, maybe you'd like to be a lab technician.

Try some biology and chemistry courses and if that floats your boat, get into a bio-chem program or major in chemistry.

As for the female engineer thing... I think these ladies would disagree with your parents' friends:

It is not true. Engineering is not gender specific.

Try Chemical Engineering. It is great!

Good Luck.
