Anyone know of a SUREFIRE way to EASILY clean the dried, dead bugs off our van windshield? We use the windshield washing fluid with the bug stuff in it but it doesn't get them off. Even the high pressure spray at the carwash will NOT power them off without also using a squeege or something to scrub the glass with. We put 1200 to 1800 miles per week on the van so the windshield has to be washed each day.

I have been told that if you wax the windshield with the same wax you would use on the body of the van itself that it makes cleaning the glass easier. Anyone know if that does work? We are in Nebraska so between the constant winds & the summer heat the bugs really get baked onto the glass by the end of each run. Would appreciate any help with either commercial products or home remedies we can use. Thanks.

The hood deflector is a good idea and will help reduce the number of bugs you get on your windshield. Add to that a regular (maybe weekly, or more often if need be) application of Rain-X to your windshield might help. Rain-X is a special coating for windshields that is often compared to wax for paint. It helps keep stuff from sticking to the windshield as much, especially water. I've found that it also helps reduce the work needed to remove the bug remnants from the glass as well. It does not damage the glass or impair your vision at all... in fact, during rain it helps dramatically. Hope that helps.

Waxing your windshield will leave a hazy film after it rains. So don't do that. Your best bet is to use Clay Bar. It comes in an actual bar (like soap) or you can get it in a liquid form. I use it ALL THE TIME. Works like a charm and I'll swear by it. I'm on the highway a lot so those bugs really get on my bumper. Clay Bar is the only thing that'll take 'em off. Have a garden hose ready to rinse off when you're done. You can find Clay Bar at AutoZone and other discount auto stores.

You can probrably get a bug and tar remover from your local hardware or auto parts store. But the last thing i would think of doing is waxing your windshield. You will be cuzing left and right for weeks maybe months that u did that. IT would cause a glare so bad at night you wont be able to drive and then you'll be wishing you had bugs to get off the windshield instead of the wax.I've seen it happen to people many times

Theres no way of KEEPING them off,but there are 2 ways i know of...Dawn Dishsoap (use a scowering pad,a lite one) use circular motions) or use WD-40 moderately on a soft rag and wash thoroughly with soap and water. Hope this helps ya out.I do alot of windshields and Dayum theres some bug guts dried up on them lol.
car wax will act like Rain-X...dont use it to get the bugs off, you'll embody the dried guts into the windshield.

Depending on how long your hood is on the van, you may find that putting a clear deflector on the front of the hood will throw the air stream high enough that the bugs go over the windshield instead of on it.

To clean them, hit up a car wash.

To avoid them, install a winshield deflector.

To kill them, grap a fly swatter.
