you certainly can install a HD for data storage

this is the best way to have computer peace of mind: an independant HD for data storage

However, if you want to transfer your old data to the new HD, then this requires some HD imaging software. I recommend using Norton ghost.

good luck

If you have windows on another drive YES you can install a second "slave" drive and format it as a blank area for data. I have windows on drive C
Apps on D, Audio and graphics on E,
G and J are video work drives, and Y and Z are each a 500G ext drive.

So you can have plenty space ( 2TB here + a little extra)

To simplify, Make sure your pin jumpers are set a "slave" on the back of second hard drive. Install drive and format it. Windows will see it as a new hard drive and you can do what you want with it. :)

Norton Ghost might be a little tough to this poster to use. I would suggest Seagate's Disk Wizard. It is free, easy to use and available at the Seagate website. It allows you to clone your existing hard drive to another hard drive.
