well, i dont like it either. I dont like it, why did you buy it in the first place. If you dont like it, you'll know what to decide, whether to buy it or not.
All i can say, is that you should just get used to it. There's nothing you can do about it--well there is: buy a letter box screen.
THe good thing about wide screen is that you can see the whole screen of the dvd movie. Unlike the usual letter box screen, wide screen dont have lack of black picture in the upper and bottom side of the screen. Wide screen is 16:9, and letterbox is 4:3. The ratio of Dvd movies are usually 16:9, so...when watching dvd of 16:9 screen ration, you wont see black upper and bottom stripes-like thingy.
perhaps if you have problems with small icons, i can help you.
first thing to do, is to right-click on the desktop. when shortcut menu appears, choose properties. And then, choose "appearance" tab. there will be some options of items such as "desktop", 3d objects, menu, icon spacing, etc. choose, "icon".the next thing determine the size of the icon that really suits you. click "ok". and done.....
another way to resize the windows appearance, you need to rigt-cklick in the desktop. only this time, choose the "settings" tab--right next to "appearance" tab. in the "screen resolution, you need to reduce the switch from the current resolution, to the smaller one. now everything is bigger.
good luck.

Widescreens are an advancement because the static human eye sees more horizontally than vertically (notice our eyes sit side by side and not on top of one another). Making the switch to widescreen can be discomforting at first, but you'll get use to it. I have a 21" widescreen, and I know what it's like switching from a 15" regular. The only problem with widescreens are that most software and websites do not take advantage of that extra space intuitively. Try putting your desktop tool bar/menu bar to the side of your desktop. Unless your desktop has the ability to customize resolution, stick to the native resolution, changing resulotion settings will warp the display (since the old-school and widescreen display ratios are not the same). Windows XP has custom display settings to make icons larger: Desktop>Right click> Properties>Appearance>Advance
That way you can avoid fiddling with resolution sizes all together.
I adapt to new products and platforms quite easily, but have found that focusing on the task at hand (what it is you want to get done on the computer) rather than the difference between how the old product felt and the new doesn't, helps the odd "I'm not comfortable with this yet" phase pass quickly.

no longer all DVD are widescreen. you want to locate "finished show screen" videos. those videos were reformatted to in superb condition your 4:3 finished show screen television. some videos have both formats. many situations that's going to likely be finished show screen on one area and widescreen on the different area. study the again of the disk case if it does no longer say widescreen or finished show screen at the front packaging. that's continually listed in a grid like field on the again conceal which information the sound and video formatting of the disk. besides the very incontrovertible truth that this isn't continually authentic. when you're uncertain basically study the completed again conceal.

I have a w i d e s c r e e n and Just like you when I first started using it I disliked it and wanted to go back. But I have been using it for a little over a year now and have used other computers and will never go back to the 19". I can open two web sites or spread sheets, etc. at the same time and although you have to shrink them a little in size it is great.

DCheck the CORRECT resolution settings for the montior, and run at it's NATIVE setup.
if you want larger icons, check under appearance of DISPLAY PROPERTIES; should be able to adjust icon size and text font size in there.

Go to control panel, then display, then to settings. Drag the setting till there is a widescreen setting to your liking.
