It might just be your battery. Try jump starting or charging it. If your starter is bad it sometimes works to tap it with a hammer(the starter) a few times to break the brushes free. Your motor might be locked up too, but try changing the starter fist.

Take the battery to the auto parts store and have it checked. If it is good, then it might be your starter.

If you can locate the starter and the electrical leads on it, you can test it on the car to make sure.

Connect a jumper cable to the battery (both positive and negative leads) and connect the black on the other side to a ground (any unpainted surface on your car will do). Then take the red lead on that side and touch it to your starter's positive terminal. If it spins, then your starter is good and it is something else on your car. If it does nothing or makes a terrible noise, then you need to replace it.

Unfortunately, I know of now way to start a car without a starter, but they're usually not terribly expensive (like 40-50 bucks at the most) and pretty easy to replace... just unhook the battery, disconnect the wires, remove the bolts (there's usually two) and pull it off.

Installation is the reverse of removal.

Hope this helps!

Make sure your battery is charged fully, you can do this by hooking up a charger and setting it on trickle charge or even hook up jumper cables and see if that works. If its not the battery being dead then try giving the starter a couple wacks with a hammer and then try starting it, i have done that hundreds of times and seems to work for me.
Sometimes the starter can get tired and worn and doesnt want to move and wacking it with a hammer tends to help. With an automatic you cant jump start it, which you can do on a standard. good luck with it.

Those tercels are easy to work on... Sounds like you need a new battery or Battery cables. If it sat for about 5 to 6 months the battery just ran low and you just need a jump start.

The size of your battery is pretty small and a cheap one for it is about $30

When lights dim at the time you turn the key to start, I woulf think battery. However, electrical is a huge area to make generized statements about. Have someone jump you.
