I just don't know what to think. I mean... it's outrageous. I think the health care system in this country is seriously flawed. SERIOUSLY.

Oh my goodness...that's horrible! I can't believe something like that could happen. This is so sad, my heart goes out to her family. I hope a lesson can be learned from this incident, because if not...we are all in trouble.

I heard about that on the local radio today. They played a clip of the 911 call. I feel the 911 operator did his job. What was he supposed to do? It's the hospital's job to care for the patient, and the city ambulance can't take on the liability of transporting her to another hospital -- a trip that also might've killed her. For a 911 operator In situations like that, hindsight is 20/20: he could've sent an ambulance, which would've prompted the staff to maybe DO something. Having worked in a similar call center (taking calls from parolees on house arrest), I can attest to how many times people cry "wolf," and considering she was already at a hospital, it had to be unfathomable that her situation was so dire, yet doctors would ignore her. That's why this has gotten so much attention: it's so unbelievable that the hospital staff would allow that to happen.

That's about as bad as it gets. When my son was born and we were still in the hospital (my wife had a C-Section), I was getting dinner and my wife had to push the emergency button (she had to hold the baby but couldn't move and couldn't hold him much longer), and yelled "I need somebody right away!! Please hurry!!" That was 9.5 months ago and they still haven't shown up.

I normally don't watch t.v. but tonight I turned it on and saw it on CNN... I immediately cried, the complete horror of watching your wife die in front of you and being completely helpless in the middle of a hospital. I'm disgusted and I think they need to shut it down immediatley and prosecute some people. Wow, I'm getting tears again just thinking about it, I feel so horrible and I wonder if it had anything to do with insurance or even their race. I thought medical doctors took an oath to help others but apparently it means nothing anymore. I hope if anything this tragedy brings about change in the health care system, it's so needed.

Two systems broke down for that poor woman. The hospital, and the 9-1-1 system.

What an awful tragedy. Completely preventable.

You know...it really makes you hesitate to even ask for help in your time of need.
