The Associated Press reports that "Despite the common notion that America remains plagued by a divorce epidemic, the national per capita divorce rate has declined steadily since its peak in 1981 and is now at its lowest level since 1970. The national divorce rate has dropped from 5.3 divorces per 1,000 people at its peak in 1981 to 3.6 per 1,000 people, the lowest rate since 1970.

It also suggests that this is partly due to the fact that instead of marriage people choose to live together. However, you will stand to lose everything if you seperate. You will still have to come to terms on custody, assests that you share, etc. This does not mean we should give up on relationships altogether.

I say get married, but make choices that will better your chances. Marriages that are financially stable have a far better chance of lasting than ones that don't. So before you get married, plan your financial future. There is far less contention in a marriage when there is food on the table and a nice roof over your head.

In a world that is filled with war and poverty I think marriage sheds some light onto it. It offers hope. People take risks all of the time, it might as well be with someone you love. Just talk to the people who have gone the distance and managed to stay married, they will tell you that it was worth the risk. I guess it comes down to, are you a half-full or half-empty kind of guy?

The divorce rate in GB is 12 outta 1000 so not quite 50% But i think temporary marriages is a bit of a joke. Most people do that already, its called living together. Why would you go thrrough the expense of a wedding for say a "3 year trial", then in 3 years would you throw another wedding? Im sure this is perfect for some people but for the average person? Not likely Especially if they are religious....I dont know any religion where they will marry you for a trial period. A temporary marriage is like saying :im pretty sure we arent gonna make it, but lets try anyway"

The divorce rates have been dropping since the early 90's. They never actually hit 50% either.

Possibly, it really shits me that people give up so easily in a marriage and i think you either stay together and make it work or you don't bother marrying at all.

I think it'd be sad if people chose to get married or not via statistics... I would hope that people just focus on what's right and whether or not they're committed and in love.

What's the risk? Either you love someone and make a committment or you don't. There's no risk. If it doesn't work out, then you get divorced. No big deal anymore.
