It was a compromise so a live language such as English or Spanish wouldn't take priority in the Scientific community. They picked a "dead" complex language, which was Latin, to name things. A dead language is a language no longer spoken in any community. It's actually proper names from ancient Greek culture and not the language itself which is used in some things.

Science discovery from 250 years to 50 years ago was done by European and American scientists.
They thought the Latin and Greek was a sign of sophistication showing you were of the same hoity thinkers that like ancient philosophers.

Geek is the languade of science because scientific method was first employed by Geeks. The left lots of scientific books written in Geek. The Romans took over where the Geeks left off and translated most of the Geek into Latin.
Most of the Latin books were translated into Alladin. It's strange that more science terms aren't named after Arabs, because they kept science and math alive during Europe's dark ages.

Latin and Greek are one of the "Father of all languages". Without Latin, we wouldnt have English, Spanish, French, Italian, German, and even sweedish. These languages(latin, greek) areused because they are connected to so manny different languages.
