How does your animal familiar help you in practicing Witchcraft?

I've always had cats around me, right now I have the most I've ever had-6. They just seem to gravitate toward me. As for helping me ~ Leo, my oldest cat, when I first got her I brought her into the circle with me whereupon, she jumped onto my head, and drank from the holy water:-)

I have 5 fish.... who do nowt but bring the element of water to my home.
I have 2 cats.... one is her own spirit and a typical tabby 'cat'. the other is a little black mummy's boy! He will only come to me and he 'talks' all the time!! He has decided that I am his, he has not shown any magik inclinations but, he's still young!
I have 2 dogs.... one is here whilst my Nan is poorly - 4months so far. The other is a 2 year old X breed which I rescued last year... she is a comfort, that is her magik.
My previous dog I lost 18mths ago, he was 16 years old and i'd had him since he was 4months. His soul was definately in tune with mine. He was a healer. I miss him very much!
All the animals keep me in touch with nature and so ground me in my beliefs. This helps me focus to my Craft.

Familiars do not have to be animate and of this realm..
I have the 5 Elemental Dragons of the Sorceress in my aura, they are my familiars in magick...
I also have a pure black cat with amber eyes, he is my animate familiar...
He is very perceptive as to what goes on about the place, especially since I share my cottage with a resident entity...
Also if I do a ritual, home or away and I bring something into this realm that should have stayed where it was, or leave something here as I didn't close my circle or ground myself properly after... He always knows and lets me know where it is and then I deal with it, and send it back...

I know a witch called Naiad, she has 13 cats and says one of them (grey, called Shadow) is her familiar. The creepy thing is that she didn't buy any of them, they just came to her house.

Yes, I have a cat (I know I know very stereotypical!) and believe it or not - rabbits! Whenever I cast circle they stand guard at the quarters! I find familiars enable me to focus better, and lend their energies when needed.

The closest thing i have to a familiar is Venus, my solid white pit bull. She brings joy to my life and keeps me grounded.
She does also have a tendancy to guard my altar...but i really dont think either of these are what you are looking for. lol

Yes, I have a Dumerill Ground Boa, and a black cat. I also have fetish spirits, vampyric servitors, and a few daemons I am on familiar terms with. Why?
