the best time should be after monsoons. its all dry and not too hot either (although sept is one of the hottest months). u can actually plan out 4 days and enjoy and relax urself simultaneously. Do visit the Fashion street in churchgate. It is just walking distance from the churchgate station. Similarly the Linking road in Bandra. Mumbai offers gr8 shopping above everything else and at gr8 bargains.everything from indian to western is available at the abve places bec loads of foreigners shop here as well. u shud normally start bargaining from abt half price of what the guy quotes. Dont forget bhelpuri pani puri and vada pav and pav bhaji of course. Im sure u will enjoy the occasional nariyal pani and sugarcane juice. juhu beach and chowpatty r worth it and so is the aquarium. national park is ok if u have kids else its like a picnic spot so am not sure if u have enough time to while around there. gateway of india of course which u can finish off while going to fashion street. Well the faloodas near Bandra station r also worth it. I hope ive been able to help.

Dear..Mumbai is the place where the climate and weather always constant..so do not waste your time.. you can visit mumbai at any time. But I would encourage you to visit mumbai in Winter.
Don't try to miss the local train..that's the only strength of mumbai.. if you dont seat in local trains than you are incompletely visited.. So have a fun..and if you are planning with you BF/Hubby.. you both can rock and much more on Juhu Beach..:-) If you don't have anyone.. let me drop few lines.. on shaikh.abdul.quddus@fmr.com
Thanks
Imran

Any day is good day to visit Mumbai. Everyday is different even to Mumbaites and gives a different experience. Every season creates it's own special effect on the life. Ofcourse the winter season is very short and almost non-existent in last few years.
If you like rains, nothing like it. On heavy downpour days you may be immobilised but overall it's a good season to be in Mumbai say till Nov end.
In four days you can not experience the magic of Mumbai. But still you can do:
You can plan a one day outing either to Alibag ( travel by launch / boat). But the boats stop ferrying throughout the monsoon season. So if you visit in rainy season, plain unlucky. Alternately you can travel by road to Alibag, plentiful of public transport available.
National Park in Borivli is worth visiting for a day.
Spend some time at one of the beaches in Mumbai. But be very, very careful.
You can visit Museum, Zoo, Fort and Colaba area. Very splendid british era structures. Also enjoy the very fast life by observing people and traffic in these areas.
Visit Gateway of India, Indian Institute of Science, Jehangir art gallery ( if you like art, paintings et al).
See Mahalaxmi temple, Babulnath temple, Racecourse, Haji Ali dargah, Mahim dargah various departmental stores, malls etc.
Visit Hanging gardens.
Plentiful of places, all interesting. But could remember these many at this point of time.
Wish you happy memories of my beloved city.

Anytime except the rain....exclude July August and 1st week of September...... rest of the year, you can visit any time.
For 4 days trip, you already got enough of it from other contributors...
Wish you enjoy your Mumbai visit

Between June to March, in other words avoid the Summer. The rain's are good if you don't mind getting a bit wet, and the winter is best. The Summer here is unbearable, due to the humidity, so try to avoid this season as much as possible.
Place's to see has already been covered in the earlier replies.
