That's a good call but try the vacuum hoses and check the wiring for shorts where they plug in, sometimes the wires don't get plugged in completely and cause a short or a bad connection and there it is , it stops working again. Good Luck and GOD Bless

I think this year of truck uses a fully electronic type of cruise control with no vacuum hoses at all. If that is right, read on. If not, a lot of this stuff is the same for the vacuum operated type of cruise. Did you diagnose this stuff before replacing it or did you just suspect a problem? A lot of problems with vehicles are intermittent and hard to find. When the truck is not working is the time to check this or any other fault. Be sure that the mechanical parts of the cruise are okay, that is the cable and connection to the throttle body. What you have to do is disconnect the big connector under the hood to the cruise module. Using a 12V test light connected to ground to check all of the following and using the same light connected to power to check the ground for the module. Turn the ignition on with the cruise switch off, check for an ignition power supply to the module, should be one. Then check to see if the ground is good to the module. Then one by one check the voltage supply to the module using all the switch positions on the cruise lever. Every one of these switch positions results in a voltage source to the cruise when the switch is operated. Every one from the on, set, resume, and the brake switch gives a voltage to the module. If all of these check good, good means there is a voltage or light on for one position and no voltage or the light is off in the other, then you might have a fault in the VSS circuit. This is a little more tricky to explain as this is a pulsed digital signal. It rarely caused us much grief, but you never know. Generally, if your speedo works and you have no SES light coming on meaning a code has set this circuit should be okay. No guarantee though as I used to check it with a special tester to assure input. 99% of the problems for these cruise systems were switch inputs or bad connections including grounds. Identify which circuit is causing the input problem and chase back to confirm a faulty switch, connection, or broken wire. Good luck.

Besides what has already been stated, these trucks also had brake light switch problems.
