OK, yea they are low, so what, does everyone in America think they are the only basketball fans? Last I checked there are other countries that populate the world. Basketball is a great international sport. NBA teams are feared throughout the international leagues, if they ever have a chance to play an NBA team it serves as a benchmark for them. Spurs beat an international power house in the pre-season, they whooped them by 20 plus points. How bout this, I know the NFL has good ratings for the super bowl. How popular is the NFL in china? how bout russia? Europe in general? They probably get close to no viewers at all. Most people in the states don't watch the NBA anymore because they aren't purists of the game. International fans are more about fundamentals and the little things of the game, thats why so many international players are making more of an impact on the game today. Get over the ratings, nobody follows ratings anymore. Just like everything tv is just a fad.

No more NBA? Thats why there are plans of expanding to other countries? Fakers, all I see during for advertising is Nike, sprite, vitamin water, gatorade. wow big deal! Like chinese people wouldn't
Opas, its to everyone here posting about how boring the finals are, how low the ratings are. wait...your an idiot.
Yea, tv a fad, who watches it anymore? Most people are too busy. I just watch movies on a television set, nothing much more. One word, Tivo.
I know they aren't taking ratings in europe, who said they were? I'm just saying more people are probably watching abroad than they are here in the states.
Gregory, that is exactly what I'm talking about. Nobody watches anything anymore. Over-saturation of networks is a bad thing sometimes, to many options is not always good.

If it's not a big deal, then why you're posting this?
*Edit*
So I'm an idiot just because I don't agree with you?
Wait, wait. I get it now, you're a Spurs fan who's still wondered why the public doesn't like San Antonio Spurs.
You saw that 4 minutes without the made field goal (on Cavs defense)?
That's the real reason that people thinks the Spurs are boring, not because they played fundamental basketball.

How can the NBA and the networks market the game to potential advertisers in America if people here don't watch it? Businesses are going to advertise with successful TV programmers. There is NO WAY advertisers would pay "Super Bowl" money to advertise during the NBA Championship, at least today. That probably was changing back in the 90's but the league is going soft.
That is just a caveat of what I am talking about.
I don't know about you but I live alone, I own 5 computers, 2 cars, I have money to pay all my bills and I still save money on top of that. I know there are people all over the world that have more money than me, but like it or not Americans are still important consumers due to the amount of money we make. Plus, are there any more ignorant consumers with their money than Americans? Can you say Adjustable Rate Mortgage?
"Purist" of the game? Please. Could there actually be a more knowedgable fan base from such a large group of people in one country than America when it comes to basketball? You would be tarred in feathered in the Midwest, ESPECIALLY IN INDIANA for suggesting foreigners know more about basketball than them. What's most likely is that people that really like basketball ARE NOT WATCHING because the Cavs folded the tent after the first half of Game 1. I am hopelessly optimistic that anyone playing basketball on T.V. would play hard but then again that is probably why I'm not a politician. The Cavs keep going with the same brain dead game plan that didn't work in the first two games. Not too bright. I, YES I would at least try getting the ball to James with his back to the basket either on the block or at the free throw line thus limiting the Spurs ability to double team him and freeing up LeBron's teammates around the basket. This is the same way the Celtics would use Bird in the 90's from time to time.
Me personally, I will put my knowledge of how to play basketball against anyone you can find, anywhere. I am that confident about what I know about how to play basketball and there are good reasons for that. Not the least of which being that I have spent time around some of the guys you see and hear commentating on NBA games and NBA coaches. I have played for NCAA champs and against NCAA players. Not to mention the countless hours I spent watching college basketball games in the 80's and the countless hours I spent figuring out college point spreads (gambling for profit) in the late 90's.
European players are able to come into the league because American players play that"SportsCenter" or "Playstation 2" style basketball. Too many guys are "playing to the camera". That B.S. is catching up with today's American player and it is unbelievable to think that young players are watching Tim Duncan and not getting the idea. What's more, the foreign guys are coachable. They will "attempt" to do what they are asked which is becoming a big problem here in America in all facets of life. Young people here in America already know everything all the time and if you don't agree with them, then you are a "hater".
How could TV be a "fad"? A fad is something that comes and goes in a generation like Grunge, Disco or the "Pet Rock". Most Americans will WASTE an inordinate amount of time in front of the TV watching "Survivor" and other such mindless programming. The Internet is taking time away from TV but it is possible to do both at the same time.

Ratings are an advertising benchmark. This is what it means. The NBA gets most of their money from the TV networks. If the ratings go down, the networks are going to offer less money to the sport if they want to air the program at all. This means the players are going to be paid less. Basketball isn't the only sport to bashed. The recent hockey playoffs did worse than the WWE Smackdown ratings (people would rather watch a fixed sport rather than a real one) and Monday Night Football, once feared in the ratings, has been cast off to ESPN to finish off the contract that cost ABC millions yet didn't have enough viewers to justify the cost.

If the NBA and David Stern actually wanted more revenue, then he would make ABC actually promote the game.
They don't even run commercials for the finals, when the playoffs were on TNT, you could see a gazillion commercials for the upcoming games.
Casual fans aren't going to look up game time, just to watch TV at night.
BTW~ They aren't taking ratings in Europe, they are taking them from th 55 largest markets in America. SA is 30 or 31 in media market share, so even if 95% of the households are watching the game, that isn't a huge share.

People are just pissed because San Antonio dosent have a "flashy" player. There are few basketball fans anymore. Most of the "fans" are people who follow kobe, lebron, and wade just cause it is the cool thing to do. Nobody appreciates how frickin good Timmy Duncan is. He is the best PF ever and people are complaining about not being flashy. All the little kids sayi8ng oh lebron is the best. No!! he is good, is is scared to take the winning shot, when is the last time jordan passed the ball when the GAME was on the line. He cant make a dam freethrow, he whines about every freakin foul called on him or not called on his defender. And stupid people jon him and ask the qs on answers "do you think he was fouled" no i dont care, the call was the call tough Sh**.
Lebron is overrated
He will never be MJ
Tim duncan and parker and ginoboli are the best three in the NBA

TV's a fad? Anyway, something good could come out of the falling ratings. The cable networks that run most of the games now could bow out and the broadcast networks could pick up more games, providing a whole new audience who would prefer to spend their money on tickets and merchandise instead of tv.

Yeah TV is "just a fad." That's why 30 million households nationwide watch American Idol, and people are still watching the NFL.

Ratings = Revenue
they don't advertise in chinese during games, also
US median income is 45k, chinese 1,700.
What it also means, is that nobody cares about NBA
or the teams, which hurts the league.
Who cares? I guess the League does since its going
downhill. If you don't care if there will be an NBA, then
you are right who cares?
