you shouldnt do that i dont really see how soaking your air filter will increase performance not only that but you only want dry air going into your engine

a new air intake system might help with the horsepower

I forgot to add with those air filters that use oil to trap dirt you cant use too much oil they will cause you MASS AIR FLOW sensor to fail soaking your airfilter in anything else might do the same thing.

Nothing that I can think of...... Remember... whatever you plan on soaking it with will be going down the carburetor along with the air and gasoline.
Most air filters have paper elements that don't require any type of coating or wetting. Some of the high performance type filters are lightly coated with oil to trap and hold the dust and dirt. Coating them any more than that will actually reduce the amount of air that can pass through them.... and reduce the performance of your vehicle.

Don't soak a paper air filter with anything, because it will just fall apart. If it's clogged with dirt, you can backwards-blow it clean with dry air. If it's contaminated with oil, throw it away because it will soon break up and pieces may get sucked into the engine.

You may be thinking of K&N washable and reusable filters, made of cotton and guaranteed for a million miles. These you can wash clean, let dry and then re-apply a thin oil film to restore airflow and filtering properties.

Just replace it, or get a K&N, but there is still wide spread debate on how much they actually improve performance.
