Gymnastics is a sport that requires a high ability to be able to forget what you're thinking mentally and just do it. Being eleven, that's not too old, but its easy to start at a younger age because they dont think about falling or getting hurt. I too experience thoughts about falling, and they sometimes prevents me from doing skills that others are doing. However, with a good coach, they can save you, especially in beginner skills were you will start. Since, you are just beginning, it is a lot less likly for you to hurt yourself because the skills you will be learning are not to dangerous. So, my best advice is to start gymnastics and when you begin to think of something scary, just think of the accomplishment that could come from succeding. =)

First off, you're not too old, especially if it's something you want to do. As to the fears, that's a natural inclination, but during classes and as you are building both your skills & confidence you will be working with thick mats for cushioning. In addition, working with knowledgeable coaches & instructors will help you learn proper techniques (including how to fall safely) that will limit your risk of injury. No school will want you working out with unsafe equipment or instruction - both because they really don't want you to be hurt but also because one severe injury to an athlete could put them out of business.

You are not too old to do gymnastics.. I took gymnastics my freshman and sophomore years of high school at my school, I was 14 and 15.. They took it away from us after my sophomore year so I joined a gymnastics club and it was fun. I miss it.
As far as the falling goes, you will have mats under you and your coaches will spot you until you learn to do things on your own... You'll be fine... Have fun and enjoy...

no 11 is not to old to start. and i have the same fear of falling off beam but that is because i have a bad ankle....most of the time when you fall nothing bad happens you usually land on your feet and u always have a mat under you so. its hard to get over fears but it is possible.

No, you're not too old. And it's good to be cautious but a good class or teacher will show you how to take a fall, just like they do in karate classes. Once you learn how to tuck and how to absorb the shock, you'll be fine. I hope you do real well.

If you knew you would never get hurt doing gymnastics you would do it right?
Then do it.
Don't make decisions out of fear or worry. Make decisions from a position of strength.

your teacher will not only teach you how to do everything you mentioned, but they will also teach you HOW to fall. you are going to fall, but it will likely result in a bruised ego more than anything else. my girls loved it and i'm sure you will too. just know that your teachers are there to instruct and also protect you. you're gonna have great fun!

Are you affraid of falling or failing? You survived learning to walk. Go for it. I know a person who was affraid of heights who became a pilot.
