Simply because they're great. It's their fundamentals, gritty defense and fantastic offense and plays which makes them great.

The ratings nor the general public do not support your statement.
I wish that they were but people do not seem to like their fundamental and effective style of play. If they had an above the rim type of player or if Duncan was a little more animated or if they were in a bigger market (east coast) then they might get a little more admiration.
People just think they are boring because they just do what they are supposed to do without all that nonsense.
Tell you what -- When I hear many people hopelessly lamenting over the state of sports and talking about knuckle heads like:
Pac Man Jones
Rasheed Wallace
Terrell Owens
Ron Artest
Barry Bonds
Jason Giambi
Kobe Bryant
and a host of others...
Think about decent, intelligent, stable, efficient and pleasantly boring Tim Duncan and the Spurs who did what they were supposed to do, the way it is supposed to be done, with class and without embarrassment.
Al they do is win championships with class and still it isn't enough.
We deserve the knuckleheads.

I don't know about Americas team but they are definently the model franchise in the NBA, as one of the most respected teams ever since Davide Robinson was on it. I would appreciate it if no bandwagon fans liked the Spurs but I guess that's what everybody does when a teamis winning, just like they were for the Mavs and the Suns during the season. I care less about who's team they are cause they have been my team ever since I first saw David Robinson play (one of the most respected players to play the game). From 95' to 07' and still going!!!!
GO SPURS!!! 99' 03' 05' 07'

Mind providing your evidence? They are not the most accepted or liked team in the NBA. There really isn't a general consensus on the most liked team. The Laker's however in the Shaq and Kobe days were liked by at least 65% of people, the Spurs right now are not.

The first guy here suggests the team that win titles once in a while however the only downside is once in a while factor decent teams though. I would pick a team by entertainment value, academy count for national and world class talent, if they are local to you great, a trust, direction or history lol I am a Man Utd fan.

The Spurs are my team, but I don't think America is in love with them. The last time I checked everyone was calling them boring.
They have been named several times as the Best Sports Franchise in America according to ESPN, but I don't think they were this year.

Because they are winning. America loves winners. They will happily jump on the bandwagon of a winning team.
