I'm using an ASUS P5GL-MX motherboard with Windows XP Professional Edition Service Pack 2. I want to add a SATA 3.5" hard disk into it but I am afraid it is not compatible with the motherboard as stated in the user guide.

Your motherboard supports SATA. It does not support SATA ll (3.0Gbits/s). If you connect a SATA ll drive, it will just run at SATA speed (1.5Gbit/s).

No you shouldnt have no problems because on your manufactor site there is no raid controller for your motherboard so that would mean when installing xp youw ill not have to press F6 to install raid controller so as long as your xp cd has service pack 2 you shouldnt have any problems if you do you can contact me on dodge_viper_venom@yahoo.com i can give u further help if needed

Yes, you should be OK with that. Keep in mind that your RAM is at the bare minimum, so it won't perform very well. From my experience, you will need 4 gb or ram for a a smooth vista experience. You may want to hold out for Windows 7, which will likely have lower minimum hardware requirements as they are aiming for the netbook market.
