hi elizabeth, yes there is something that is very effective to achieve or avoid a pregnancy. NFP (natural family planning). No, it is NOT the Catholic rhythm method but a very reliable way of charting your fertility to know when you are fertile. It can even be used by ppl with abnormal cycles & those w/serious health problems.
My husband & I have been using it for 10 yrs. to avoid a pregnancy due to very serious health problems I have. NFP is safe, easy to use, easy to learn, cheap, it doesn't interact w/medications, you can tell when pms symptoms occur, plus it won't cause the nasty side effects like hormonal birth control can.
It does require committment and communication from both partners, but isn't that what marriage is all about? you have so much to gain and nothing to lose.
We heard about it via a local hospital & then we were taught by an NFP practitioner on how to use it.

I had that same problem with the shot. There is of course many pills out there, there is the patch which you take off once a week, and there is also a implanting device called Mirena that lasts for 5 years. And if you change your mind about having a baby you can get it taken out before the 5 years is up. There is also of course condoms, diaphragms, sponges, etc.

like the other person mentioned there is the ring. also you should talk to your doc because they have pills now that you only take like once every 3 months.
all hormones like birth control can have some type of side effect though. i am not sure about the ring, but you have to change that maybe once a week???
good luck!

Glad to hear you are getting off of depo!
I don't like pills either but I am on Kariva (pill) and have had no issues with it. The pills are really tiny and are easy to take with a small sip of water.

There is the vaginal ring (NuvaRing) and the patch (OrthoEvra) that offer the same effectiveness.
