So the weather suddenly got really cold, and now I have a killer sore throat and my ears hurt too.
Do you know of any quick remedies? I don't have any honey or lemon at home, so I dont know what to do. I'm drinking a lot of hot water but it's not really helping.

Try gargeling with warm salt water. Do you have a fever? The sore throat and ear ache could be a sign of strep. You may want to visit the doctor!

They say gargle warm salt water, like a few times a day. I'm not sure about the science behind it - but it tends to do work. In the past when I had a monsterously agonising sore throat (gosh it sure has been a while...omg i might get one now. ) and i've found the soreness intolerable, i've done this: a) squeeze out a blob of toothpaste onto the tip of your pointing finger b) open your mouth wide whilst staring at the bathroom mirror c) raise your jaw upwards slightly so you can view as far back down your mouth as you can d) smear the toothpaste all around the back of your sore throat, tonsils etc. This might induce a vomitting sensation if you think too much about it, otherwise it will do the following things for you. a) provide a sensation of 'cool' ness around the sore area b) to some extent, 'numb' out the pain. this is only a temporary solution though. Do this after you've gargled hot salt water a few times. Then wait for an hour or two, and try the toothpaste idea. i wish you the speediest of recoveries from this sore throat my friend, we've all been there and we know how much it kills. It kills like a b4stard doesnt it ? like theres some kind of furry spiked ball lodged in the back of your throat ? heh all the best jax *extra advice* oooh yes, sorry hi there im back. it goes without saying, but avoid these foods rich curdy/dairy products like cream cakes, milk, etc salty snacks/savouries such as crisps. chocolate refined dough foods i.e donuts, cakes etc fried foods/snacks - we all love a burger or a deli, but cmon - that 1/4 cheeseburger or big roast chicken CAN wait. The idea is to consume foods that break down fast, and require little next to know chewing. EAT one slice of light bread with a bowl of Soup. One must avoid eating food that coats ingrediants around the throat to further attract/harbour more germs. We're trying to kill as many of them as possible here. If it gets x20 worse let me know i'll call an ambulance or have a go at 'open throat surgery' heh. all the best jax

If you have some tea, have some hot tea with a half a shot of whiskey and sugar to taste. Sounds like strep or a virus, don't wait too long to see the MD.

I found the best remedie to be Aloe juice when it comes to a sore throat. strawberry-kiwi flavor is the best one. And plenty of antioxidents like OPC-3 will help you get rid of the ear ache naturally. you can find them at: http://www.marketamerica.com/tkshopintl
